Types of Cannabinoids – What Makes Them Different?
Cannabinoid is a unique chemical element found in the nearly 480 elements found in a sativa plant, cannabis. Almost 66 known types of cannabinoids are found in this plant. Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol or Delta 9-THC is one of the well researched and known cannabinoids found in cannabis, and for that it is considered responsible for its psychoactive effects.
It is believed that the other elements found in cannabis plants can influence the effects of the cannabinoids, especially THC cannabinoid, found in it.
Types of Cannabinoids
The cannabinoids can be classified into various different classes as provided:
- Cannabichromene (CBC)
- Cannabigerol (CBG)
- Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)
- Cannabidiols (CBD)
- Cannabidiol (CBDL)
- Cannabinol (CBN)
There are some other varieties of cannabinoids like cannabielsoin (CBE), cannabicyclol (CBL), cannabidiol (CBT), etc.
Woking of Cannabinoids
Cannabinoids work like opiates, derived from poppy opium also known as heroin, as it interacts with the receptors of the central nervous system of the user found at different locations to affect his/her physical activities. Until now, two types of receptors to cannabinoids, known as CB1 and CB2, have been recognized. The substance, which was discovered in 1992, is bound to the receptors CB1 and occurs in the human brain in natural form was known as ’anandamide.’ Since the discovery of this substance, it was revealed that many other natural substances are bound to CB1, which along with these receptors are known as the system of endogenous cannabinoids.
The effect of these cannabinoids is actually reflected by the part of the brain they are interacting with. The effect of these interactions appears in the performance of the limbs controlled by your brain like cognition, psychomotor and memory, and more, as well as the ways through which mesolimbic express their rewarding feelings and can also be distributed evenly into the areas with painful feelings.
The working of the endogenous cannabinoid system is still under research. Most of these researches are focused on the medicinal use of some of the synthetic analogs known as man-made cannabinoids.
Difference Between Different Types of Cannabinoids
Different types of cannabinoids can be differentiated from each other on the basis of the range of their psychoactive effects. But CBC, CBD, and CBG are the three classes of cannabinoids that do not affect the users’ brain. On the other hand CBN, CBDL and THC are a few other cannabinoids that affect the psychology of the user at different levels.
Perhaps CBD is most abundantly found cannabinoid in the cannabis resin as it is almost 40% of the resin. In fact, CBD reduces the psychoactive effect of the THC and is known for its anti-anxiety effects. In other words, it can be said that the intensity of the effects of the THC and the potency of the plant can be reduced by the CBD found in a large percentage in the cannabis plant. However, if the cannabis plant has a lesser amount of CBD then it causes unwanted anxiety along with increasing its effect on your psychology.
THC forms CBN, a weak psychoactive substance, when it oxidizes with its exposure to air. CBN also reduced the effect of THC like CBD. For this reason, unused cannabis will lose its potency by having a lesser amount of THC and more amount of CBN in it.
Conclusion
The information provided in this write-up about different types of cannabinoids cannot be said complete as they are still under study.
